I am trying to decide on whether to give an sata burner a try. I need to do something. There is a thread of mine a few posts down about slow burn speeds. I've tried absolutely everything, and have narrowed it to 2 options.

    a. Buy an IDE controller to get my 2 burners off the same cable, or
    b. buy an SATA burner

Is Plextor the only one making them? Could someone give me some advice??

    Thanks a bunch!!

  2. You could buy a firewire to eide cable, or a sata to eide device. I just bought 2 Sata 2 eide devices for $9 each from geeks. Myself though, I now use an external case with a duplicator card. 1 - 7 target.

    or

    usb to eide

These will work for cd roms or hard drives.

My new asus mother board has 3 eide channels (6 devices) and 6 sata ports and 8 usb2 ports, so I have 2 burners on one channel, 2 300 Gig eide hard drives, 3 300gig sata drives and 1 400 gig sata2 drive. I do a lot of video editing.

I bought a sata to ide converter to use on a PIONEER 111D@111L drive. It works well with the PIONEER drive. I have the converter hooked up to the PIONEER drive then use the SATA cable to my ASUS mobo. I have 3 other dvd burners in that pc. If you decide on getting the sata to ide converter make sure you get the one that has the JMICRON 20330 chipset.

Here's a thread about using a sata to ide converter from the Pioneer forum at CdFreaks.com.

Plextor seems to be the only one out there. There seems to be a few problems with SATA DVD drives if this thread on CD Freaks is correct: http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=164946

Probably a PCI ATA controller card (ATA 33/66 compatible) or a SATA to ATA converter would be your best solution.

Thanks. I just ordered one. Maybe getting things off the same IDE will speed things up a bit.
