  1. Hi,

I have a movie on VCD (.dat files) in more than one part and I want to make a DVD movie of it (single VOB file). I tried converting .dat files to .mpg (using VCDGear) and then joining those mpg files in ffmpegX then demultiplexing the joined mpg file. It demuxes fine into .m1v ( I am surprised why it demuxes as .m1v and not .m2v) and .mp2 file. As ffmpegX does not mux the .m1v file, i rename it to .m2v and then start multiplexing. It works for single mpg file. But problem is encountered at the first mpg file boundary and ffmpegX fails giving error:

"**ERROR: [mplex] Need to split output but there appears to be no %d in the filename pattern /Users/kapil/Desktop/1&2.mpg.joined.mpg-0.mpg".

The renaming of .m1v to .m2v should not be a problem as it works for single mpg file.

    Any guesses?

    thanks in advance.

VCD is MPEG-1, while DVD is usually MPEG-2 (MPEG-1 is valid too for DVD). That's why the video-only streams are named .m1v and .m2v. The numeral tells the kind of MPEG stream it is.

ffmpegX has an svcdvd tool in the Tools tab (registered version only). That allows you to select a folder with one or more VCD/SVCD mpeg files (even .bin image files), then ffmpegX will author that into a continuously playing DVD, converting what needs to be converted (audio) and preserving what doesn't need conversion (video). No need to join the parts at all.

I have no idea about your error message, though.

    Hello there

mpg 1 elementry stream is m1v and mpg 2 elementary stream id m2v... it seems that the problems was cause by renaming m1v to m2v.. when i'm creating the same situation with yourrs.. first i use VCDcutter to join the .dat files of VCD or converted .dat using VCDgear same that you do and then when i got .mpg file.. then I use TMPGenc plus to demux .mpg to m1v and the audio to mp2... and then I just rename m1v to mpv because TDA and dvdlab pro support this files perfectly...

i hope i can give a little help for you...
