  1. As Johnny "the boy" is being released from police custody he opens his mouth and taps the back of his neck twice.

I suppose that means the same as giving someone the finger here in the states?

  4. No bloody idea, mate. It has been so long since I've seen the film I don't remember that scene.

I always took it to be a referenced to forced fellatio - sort of a pre-cursor to "Bite me". But I must admit I have never seen it actually used outside this film.

For any Aussies who are looking to buy this classic exploitation film on DVD, I strongly suggest the US release. While it doesn't have the DTS audio that we got on the local release, it does have the original US dubbed soundtrack. Apparently, until the DVD release, US audiences had never seen this film with it's original Australian soundtrack. That includes Mel being dubbed as well.

  6. Have one of the original US versions so, no original Australian SD track.

Never really thought about the movies background. But one of the easiest ways to tell is when Mel (Rockitanski) is going down the stairs to leave and his wife calls down to (sigh) she loves him, Her mouth looks to be saying "oy" not "hey". I belive that's correct slang.

The dub is pretty much word for word, just a different accent. And even though we have become so used to American accents through television and movies etc., this is a such a seminal Australian film that it really does sound odd.

The US release also has two documentaries, whereas the local release only has the one (I believe it is the fawning 'Mel the Star' doco, and not the great - but short - making of). If it had been a DVD9 instead of a flipper (all the extras are on the b-side) it would be a top release.
