So, I copy a video from my PC to a CD-r disc. It plays well on the PC. I go to play it on my DVD player that states it will play all CD-r discs. No luck! The error message comes up when reading the disc so no video. What is wrong with this picture?(pun intended). Am I using the wrong media format? Should the disc only be for DVD recordings? Kind of confused on what discs I should be using. The ones I use are Sony bought at Costco and I mostly 95% of the time use them for music burning with no problem. Suposedly the box states they can be used for music, data, pictures and video. I know not all DVD players recognize all media but the literature states mine is supposed to play all CD-r material as well as others, it is a cheap Sansui. Any suggestions besides trashing the player? Thanks

    ???

I think you need to give a little more detail. Not all dvd players read file based discs. And not all divx compatible dvd players can read all compressed video files.

You need to check the manual of the dvd player to see what types of files it can play.

And when it says "cdr" discs it may simply refer to AUDIO music on cdr or VCD or SVCD on cdr. That doesn't necessarily mean it will play all file types.

But you can get players like the older philips 642 for $50 or less these days that will play "MOST" divx files. Again not all files you get off the internet will play on all file players.

Some more info about the CD you're trying to play would be helpful too. Is it an AVI, MPG, or an authored disc such as (S)VCD?

As my post stated above what I want to do is copy videos sent to me through my PC as mpgs or avis on to discs so I can play them at work or on other DVD players. I currently are using discs that are labeled as CD-R and supposedly are used for data, music, photos and videos. The particular player at work is a cheap Sansui that states in the manual the following,

"The loaded disc(DVD, Audio-CD and MP3-CD) will be recognized automatically. The suitable disc-formats are: CD-R and CD-RW. Some CD-R/RW discs may be incompatible."

When I do load a disc at work the player tries to read the disc and comes back with a "Incorrect Disc" error. Would using a disc that is a "DVD" rated disc be better than using a all-around disc like the one I am using? The disc plays OK on my PC at work but want to watch it on a TV monitor so more people can watch. Thanks

It doesn't sound like your player is capable of playing CD-R's with mpegs or avi's. What you described only indicates that it can play audio CD's on a CD-R.

That's what it sounds like to me also. After reading that statement over and over it seems that the player will only read commercial DVD movies and music on CD-R. Like I said it is only a cheap DVD/VCR model. Thanks

  7. You can always convert your files into Video-CD and try that, most (but not all) DVD players will handle VideoCD.

Or, if you have access to a DVD writer, author them as a DVD.
