I have a stereo file that has LOW dialogue but LOUD music. I use Besweet for most of my audio needs. How do I raise the volume of the dialogue but retain the volume level of the music at one time? I tried using dynamic compression by boosting it but the music is still louder than the dialogue. thx.

Too late to really do much. You might be able to use notch filters to isolate the dialogue a little, but then you would probably have to re-mix it with the original to get clarity back to the music. It is one of those problems that requires a lot of effort for minimal gain.

  4. Stealth3si,
whats the source on the stereo file? It sounds more as if it came from a badly done 5.1 to 2.0 conversion of somekind

  6. I figured as much. Your best bet is to have besweet "make 6 wave streams". This option will seperate the 5.1 into 6 wavs, easily labeled for you.
Next would be to use an app like soundforge or goldwave and lower the music (usually found on the back/rear left/right channels). This way it will not over power the vocals. You can also increase the vocal track (usually the center or front left/right channels) if you desire to do so.
You then need to make at least one stereo track from these mono ones (yes a seperated 5.1 are actually all mono). For example putting the front left and right channels as stereo.
Once that is done, copy/paste the remaining audio tracks on top of each other (using a mix fucntion) and that will properly downstream your 5.1 to a 2.0 stereo track.

Essentially all your are doing is lowering the volume of some of the audio tracks and then putting them all together in one stereo stream

Now, if you had said "I have a5.1 audio file and when I mix it down to stereo with besweet . . . . . . " you would have got better answers sooner. We should not have to drag the details out of you.
