Hello, thanks for taking the time to read my post.

I have a DVD burner that burns CD's as well. I was experiencing skipping during the playback of my CD's recently (Boomboxes, Car CD Players, CD Home Stereo Systems, etc.). It (the burner) used to work great but all of a sudden its acting up for the first time.
I've un-installed Nero, and re-installed it and the problem is still there. I've tried replacing the drive with just a Standard CD Burner and I still get skipping problems. I've tried switching slots (Master, Slave), and I still get problems. What could this be? This must be a software issue right?

If anybody could please help me, it would be appreciated. Thanks

I can think of a few possibilities. Have you tried different media? Checked the drive to see if it's in PIO mode instead of DMA? Checked your hard drive for sufficient space? Defragged it lately?

Those are all somewhat unlikely. When you uninstalled Nero, did you use Nero Clean Tool to remove the remnants of Nero before you reinstalled? Or checked your power supply to see if it's failing? Tried different IDE cables? Tried a different burning program? Checked Nero's ASPI layer to see if it's corrupted? You could try ForceASPI Drivers.

That's about all I can come up with.

  4. What version of Nero are you using? If ver.7 I would try Deep Burner or Burnatonce.
It's also possible that the CD laser is dirty or worn out.

Nero 6 Ultra Edition. Also, I've tried another CD Burner that I know is new. So it (the lens) probably isnt the cause of it

Well, I've tried Stomp RecordNow MAX and it played skip-free! I just cant understand how one day Nero is working and the next its not? Is this possible for programs to messup overtime?, and if so, to act up even when I uninstall/reinstall the program?

Did you use Nero Clean tool when you uninstalled? Nero doesn't always 'give up' that easily.

Lol, I didnt know that. But anyways, I did a Google search and found that tool and removed it (Nero) completely. But everything seems to work now. Thanks for all the replies, you guys always have the right answers!

When you play Audio CD's on audio equipment - especially older models - you might avoid problems by writing the CD's at slower speed. Some of this older gear was not designed to work with CD-RW at all, but burning at slow speeds seems to help in some cases.

Eg 10x or 8x I found give good results.

If you audio gear is fairly new it should handle CD-RW at max speed.

  10. As a manufacturer they get bad press, but Princo's Type 8 dye CD-R's are excellent for players that don't like recordable media. This is especially true for the older Sony DVD players, CD walkmans and other portable players that spin the disc faster than usual in order to maintain shock protection - I've learnt from experience and always keep some of these on hand.

Florida may not be a problem, but here in the UK in particular a licensing dispute with Philips (I understand Princo didn't pay them any royalties !!) means we can't get them. I order mine in from the States via ebay and they have always been very consistent, that's how confident in them I am. Definately worth a shot in my opinion.
