    Hey
I'd like to convert some mp4's that I have into XviD avi's.
Is it possible to this as a direct copy with the least possible loss of audio/video quality
The quality of the mp4s are excellent and i'd like to see if i can keep them that way when converted if not a little less better.
I've heard and looked around finding out that it isn't easy and about mp4 being just a container.
I'd like to convert it to xvid avi because i want to view them on my divx player
My divx player says MP4 compatible on the front though when i insert the disc it appears to be blank.
I'm sure it'd be better to convert the mp4's into xvid rather than divx.
Since they seem to play pretty well on my divx player so i'd rather have the mp4'sdo that too (once converted)
my xvids sometimes jog when playing
it's noticeable but thenfades out a bit - or maybe i'm getting used to it.
is there a way to prevent this
i've heard the write speed of dvd's affects this
i've tried all speeds but i don't seem to find a pattern
and all of the xvids play fine on the pc so it's definitely not the file.
    i've tried burning my 8x discs at 4x, 6x and 8x (DVD)

Thanks for any feedback as this is something i was supposed to do a very long time ago
    Thanks for the help

p.s - i've tried opening them with virtual dub/virtualdub mod but they aren't supported, i downloaded avisynth but can't figure how to use it without the GUI - i tried loking for scripts in there to load with virtual dub but couldn't find any and i'm not sure on how to make them.
i also used another program that converts mp4's to a whole load of extensions but it appeared to be the quick jobb so that quality is lost.
is there another way round this maybe a batch conversion or with virtualdub or even something better?
I'm not a video conversion etc expert
i've done my fair share of stuff with different video formats but i'm in need of some help here.

    Thanks

I downloaded this ap and it looked really good
    good options etc.
I did a quick convert and i had my output
But when i try to play it or go in the folder where it is i get the windows explorer error message
and can't go anyway near the file.
if you could also give me some settings to use which would give me the best output xvid avi file at the most decent file size
as i'd like to fit about 6-7 of these high rips onto 1 dvd.
I left audio on high quality mp3 lame
    and then let it convert
    anything else i should select
there was advanced for audio and i look for any video options though i saw some advanced ones somewhere. - i just went ahead and converted so i could see the rough and basic output..

    Thanks

MP4Cam2AVI is mainly for mp4 with divx, xvid video and mp4 can contain other video codecs.

    So try SUPER!

And what is the video and audio codec in the mp4? identify with YAMB.

By mp4 you probably mean Nero Digital format in which case i wrote a guide a while back some of the steps you can skip since you have a file already anyways follow the guide and it should be fast and easy heres link for ya...

    Thanks for the link
Very nice guide and i'm trying it out now
I used the SUPER program but it's taking very long to convert one mp4 file - still running and i have a lot to convert
if the output of the SUPER convert is very good then i think i'll stick to that and leave one mp4 running a night - shouldn't take too long then
the SUPER program does have some good settings..
I know this may sound like a very newbie question but the source of where i got my mp4 from says it is encoded into an mp4 container.
is there a way of "removing the container"? - leaving behind it's original format ..or so..

    Thanks

Trident i get an error message when trying to export the video AND audio out of my mp4 file.
video is that it can't read sample-1
and says exception - MPEG-4 internal

    the audio says busy/locked
    lock timeout (10 seconds)

    ??
at first i thought it was because i was already using the mp4 file with another conversion
but then i chose another one and still got the messages.
    Thanks
