    Hello
I am looking for good software for cutting, joining VCD. I saw the articles and know there are many applications but I came here to ask editors and videographers about best one.
I use VCD cutter but it is not enough good and sometimes it creates jerk in VCD.
Of course I am not looking for free software, I am looking for most powerful and best software for cutting VCD.
    Appreciate any idea in advance.

  2. Since vcd is an mpeg file, I would recommend the Womble products namely mpeg video wizard. You can cut and join and there will be no re-encoding so you won't lose any more quality in your vcd's.

I would second Balrick's post with a slight preference for MPEG-VCR. MPEG-VCR comes with help pages and it's pretty simple to use. However, I do have a recommendation that seems to be counterintuitive to a lot of people. What you want to do is NOT to remove video you don't want, but to join video you do want. For example, let's say you have 15 minutes of TV footage, followed by 2 minutes of commercials, followed by 10 minutes of TV footage. You want to keep the 25 minutes of TV footage as one file. You would set a starting and ending point for the 15 minute segment, save it to a clipboard and then set a starting and ending point for the 10 minute segment and save it to the clipboard. Now click on the 15 minute segment and append the 10 minute segment to the end of it and save the result. This will give much much better results than trying to remove the 2 minute segment of commercials and save the rest.

I have videoredo as well and I think it's terrific for HD TV edits. It could also be used for VCD. I just prefer MPEG-VCR's interface for VCD, SVCD or DVD, but it's just a question of preference. Videoredo is a fine product. In fact, it's actually simpler to use in my opinion than MPEG-VCR.

Splitting video with either is a piece of cake. Just set a beginning and ending point for the first segment, save it, and then do the same for the second segment. I think it's somewhat easier to split video with MPEG-VCR, but easier to join video with Videoredo.

  6. I don't know what your final destination is, but I had a project a while back where I wanted to join four SVCDs into one DVD. I used DgIndex on each disc, then joined the pieces in AviSynth and got a seamless perfect join, and the audio stayed in sync. Of course I had to then re-encode, but since I was going up to DVD spec (size and bitrate), I suspect I lost no image quality.

DgIndex provided me with d2v files which load easily in an AviSynth script.

I prefer Womble MPEG Video Wizard. and i think this software is very suit for you. It's simple, useful and do best in cutting, editing the PMEG files including VCD, DVD and SVCD.

TMPGEnc (FILE > MPEG TOOLS) is free, works decent.
Womble MPEG-VCR is my #1 choice, pretty cheap.
