I stopped to use my computer for capture, conversion and burning.
Now I use only Datavideo 1000 standalone recorder.
Making VCD, SVCD, Photo VCD is very very simple.
Quality is far far better than any standalone recorder.
I like DV part. Connect DV cam directly to standalone recorder thru firewire cable. Ready to record.

You can search on NET
I bought it on auction(Ebay). I bought it at $700.
( I don't want to upgrade my computer and to do so many tasks to convert/copy videos to VCD. I can spend time for my kids)
You can use any CD-R/W (even very cheap brand like STI).
You can record any DVD, DV , VHS, SVHS source.
Captured VCD is really very good (using composite)
very very good (using S-Video)
best (using DV)
SVCD almost looks like origial.
Datavideo also released new models. they are calling VDR-3000DV priced at above $1000
Mine is VDR-1000
Only difference is I don't have coposite video (RGB) option to output to old TV or projector.
I used almost all available s/w encoders and h/w.
After using this recorder,
I realised i wasted (actually not wasted. I gained knowledge) my time on computer earlier.
Still I have all VP5, winoncd5, movie factory, ulead etc etc. But I stopped using those.
