  1. Hi, I have two questions about the Lagarith Lossless Codec.

(1). There aren't any guides that I can find on using Lagarith. Lagarith has three settings:
    a. Enable Null Frames,
    b. Enable RGBA Compression, and
    c. Always Suggest RGB Format for Output.

I have no idea what those settings mean. Can anyone explain? Also,

(2). There are two versions of Lagarith. How do I find out which one I need?

Lagarith codec and installer (v1.3.9) (requires a MMX compatible processor), or
Lagarith codec and installer for Windows64 ?

Please overlook the stupidness of the questions, as I am but a newbie still.

A great big thanks to all of the pros out there who have helped me along so far!!!!!

    Thanks!
    Chris

  2. I could quote it back at you, but it's all explained in the settings.txt file that comes with it. If, after reading it, you still don't understand, come back again.

Unless you're running a 64 bit operating system (and you'd know it if you were), then grab the regular version. Regular old Windows XP is 32 bit.

I don't check any of the 3 boxes (although I will begin checking the Multithreaded box very soon), and I set the Mode for YUY2, as I encode later in CCE. But, if you start with YV12 (like from DVDs), then it doesn't make any difference, and I'll convert to YUY2 in the AviSynth script. If you start with RGB AVIs of some sort, and also encode in CCE, then a YUY2 conversion will do you some good.

  3. Oh, that's great!!! Thanks!!!

I am running Windows XP, SP2. So I take it then from your reply that I will need the 32 bit version.

I will also be encoding with CCE SP. So your comment about YUY2 was right on point for me!

Oh, by the way, for multithreading and YUY2, which box should I check? Enable Null Frames,
Enable RGBA Compression, or Always Suggest RGB Format for Output?

    Thanks again!!!!!

  4. Hi-

    Yep, you take it correctly.

Oh, by the way, for multithreading and YUY2, which box should I check? Enable Null Frames,
Enable RGBA Compression, or Always Suggest RGB Format for Output?

As I understand it, under no circumstances should you check the Null Frames box.

I've found no circumstances where I've needed to enable RGBA or RGB Mode or suggest RGB for output. Evidently there are applications where it needs to be in some kind of RGB (TMPGEnc, among others). But if you're just doing this on the way to encoding in CCE, then you certainly don't want to use any of those.
