I dont even know where to put this thread. Move if need be.

Anyways. I have the game The Movies (Original), and the Expansion (Stunts And Effects). When I got the original game I wanted to be able to save the game to desktop and run it that way instead of off the disc for fear that it would wear out my DVDRW Burner.

And after about a month with Stunts and Effects, sure enough, it crapped out. So I have a new one on the way.

But what I want to know is there anyway I can save my game to desktop? Any work arounds since the game/disc wont allow me to do so.

    Thanks in advance.

if you have nero you can set up a virtual cd-rom drive. This is space allocated on your hard drive that the computer thinks is a cd-rom drive. You basically create a cd-image with the nero software and mount that image on a virtual cd-rom drive. It's faster than loading from cd and you will also have a backup of your cd (the image).

I don't have it on the machine i'm currently using up at work so I dont know exactly from memory, but in your nero folder on the start menu there should be something called drive image or something like that. If noone else has posted I'll get back with you later tonight when I'm on my home pc.

Take a look at Daemon Tools.

You use it to create one or more virtual CD/DVDs and mount images to them. Works well and includes emulation for a lot of copy protection schemes.

There is even a scripting tool so you can automatically mount and unmount images. I use this for my daughters' educational games; they can click on one of 3 different icons and the games get mounted and run for them.

Good and easier option is to use Daemon Tools (freeware) to mount an image of a disc.

DVD Decrypter could be used to create an image if that game comes on a DVD disc.

Thanks guys. Once I get my new Burner I will give all the solutions a whirl and let you know the outcome.

As for the game. The Original game is on a DVD. The Expansion is on a CD-ROM.

Many games have copy protection (like, yet unlike DVD copy protection). There are many variants, and creating an image (that works) of your discs may not be possible without special software.

You can check the forums on http://club.cdfreaks.com - I believe there is a section dedicated to game backups. While you won't be burning the disc image, you will still need to create one (to mount).

One of the most popular software packages for backing up games is CloneCD (payware).

What software you need to make a working image of your discs, really depends on what (if any) copy protection your games use.
