Is there any kind of boosting i can do to the VHS video quality to spice things up? I was gonna try and boost contrast & sharpness in vegas, but that may not be the best way to improve quality on the footage

there's a limit to how much of quality can be altered when it comes to vhs. no boosting, but correcting can be done. vegas should be able to alter the image to make it more viewable, but don't expect anything more than the vhs quality u already have.

This is because the source determines the outcome, and no matter how much skill u have, a vhs is a vhs. try playing with contrast and brightness, depending on what u sense is unsatisfactory. It might be neither, but only color. it's a skill that u might develop, so give it a go. there is no better way than what u suggested.

    good luck

Check out the RESTORATION forum. There are many articles there talking about capturing vhs tapes using quality S-VHS machines with TBC and Color correction and Filters.

You can boost Sharpness, Colors thru Hardware or software. So many posts dealt with that issue.
