Recieved $100 Wal-Mart gift card for Father's Day
from my Family, and wanted to put it towards
a DVD Recorder. Out of my own pocket,
I could pull together about another $75 to $100,
so let's just say for argument sake I have $200 to spend.

    What would be your reccomendation:

Here are the models I saw on a quick perursal
at the wal-mart 10 miles from my house.
I will look at a copuple of others today:

    RCA DRC8320N $198
    Magnavox MWR10D6
RCA DRC8052N ( coming, none on actual shelf, but had tag on shelf)
Panasonic DMR-ES25 ( none on shelf, had tag)
They also had shelf space for the iLO, but no units on shelf.

any others let me know. Like I said, I can be careful and make sure to
hit all the walmarts before I make a purchase.

Of the those choices, go with the Panny. I have an ES10 and am very happy with it as is a friend of mine. You will get people here that don't like it, but I'm not one. Within those limited choices I say Panny. I've been copying the Sopranos and Deadwood for buds at work for a year or so and not a single problem, they all remark at how good the DVD looks.

Walmart doesn't have much anymore in the way of DVD recorders. Sucks.

If Pioneer cannot be found, get the Panasonic.

Walmart does not carry LiteOn or LiteOn clones anymore, and it never carried JVC or Toshiba.

If you would rather have a better model recorder (Toshiba, JVC, Pioneer) from another store (Best Buy, for example), sell your gift card for the cash value. Walmart cards are transferrable. PM me about this if you want to.

  5. Gift cards sell for very close to their value on ebay. Sell it there and buy a decent recorder somewhere else.

Also to add to the mix,
at two other wal-marts in a 10 mile radius:

    Emerson EWR10D5
    Panasonic ES20 and ES 15
    and
one Walmart had ONE iLO still in a box unopened!

All the recorders I've listed carry a price tag as low as $98
( Emerson, iLo, Maganovx) up to $169 ( Panasonic E20/E15).

Looks like I may end up doing something else with this gift card.
Of the Panasonic models, which seems like a good buy?

The Panasonic only looks good up to SP mode. Anything beyond that is sort of yucky.

A $100 card won't last long if you buy gas at Walmart. It'll be gone in 2-3 fill-ups. Then spend your gas money on a new DVD recorder.

  9. This is why people should not use XXX store gift cards. Any store of any type really.
    Only in certain case maybe.

If you loose the card they get $100 for nothing! Can't get it replaced.
People often do not spend the full value so the store gets extra profit for nothing.
If you do spend the full value it will probably be more so they get more money.

It's all kinda a ripoff in the stores favor but you get nothing in return, no discounts, extra value, or free gifts. Except with Wal-mart if you use a gift card to buy gas you get 3cents per gallon off. Otherwise why bother, give cash that can be used anywhere.

Postal money order if mailing it.

Exceptions maybe like if giving to a teen that would use it for drugs, booze, ciggerattes, porn or other things you don't aprove of, then maybe give a store card to them instead of cash.

Teen..WT? you need a christian Gift card, usable in Christian Book stores and collection plates only.. every Teens dream gift.
So why has walmart/Asda stopped doing Liteon / ILO ?
