  1. my problem: i ripped a dvd using dvd decryptor so that i could encode to divx\Xvid as i have done many times before. however deciding that i'd rather just back it up as a dvd, i open DVD Author (1.5.19.59, and i don't want to update). upon trying to open as a "dvd video" it states that it cannot open this file. when opening the first vob as a "file" i then get that the bitrate is too high, yet i'm still able to open it and proceed to the second vob, which after getting the same bitrate message i then recieve that the audio existence differs from the present track, and that it cannot proceed. feeling that the vobs need to be demuxed, i open TMPGEnc to seperate the audio & video and demux the vob's into m2v & ac3 streams. then going back into the DVD Author i again try to open the m2v & ac3 files thinking this would of remedied the situation but still the same errors. any suggestions?? i'd certainly appreciate some kind of resolution to my problems.
    thanx -tmt-

Its a protection on the disc , the VTSs are "wrong" making them non-compliant as far as TMPG DVD Author is concerned (but a dvd player will play the disc ok but it wont backup the files as it is) . Im not quite sure what the moderation on backing up dvds is to say how to get around it .

  4. umm,....did i forget to use punctuation again!!

  5. i'm not quite sure if i understand your comment properly, to clarify; are you saying the reason why i get the error that the audio differs from the first track is a because of a disc copy protection?
. . . i can make some sense outta that. since i used dvd decrypter to rip the disc to my HDD, i only have (5) vob's, and (1) vts file -("VTS_01_0.IFO"), and a stream info file named "VTS_01_PGC_01 - Stream Information.txt".

is there an easy way to create new IFO's for the vob's and re-author the disc, so it can be burned?
i might as well just go ahead and encode it to xvid, like i was originally gonna do. but i'm not givin' up yet.
if anyone can share with me how to achieve such, i'd be most grateful.
btw; thanx sartori for your input.

  6. If you decrypted using DVD Decrypter, then it already has IFOs, BUPs, and VOBs. It's already been authored and there's no need to do it again. If it's from a DVD5, then it's ready to burn already. If it's larger than a DVD5, then you have to shrink it one way or another. That's what the guides are for.

  7. well not really, .......... seriously, the files that i mentioned are the only ones i have from using DVD Decrypter. maybe i have my DVD Decrypters' setting screwed up, ....altho I can use these files i have now to encode to avi (xvid/divx/etc) using autogk without any problems. i thought DVD Decrypter reduced the number of info files down to a total of (2); those being the other files i listed previously besides the (5)vob's. i can't ever recall that i have had bup's when using DVD Decrypter to backup a DVD onto my HDD, for the purpose of autogk to encode the files into avi/divx/xvid/etc. maybe i'm mistaken, i really dunno, and now i'm unsure what files i should have after using DVD Decrypter,......

Well rip the DVD with DVDDecrypter again - this time to ISO. If the ISO is too big for a DVD5, run it thru DVDShrink first.

  9. i no longer have it available (the DVD), anything else i might be able to do??
i know there is, it's just whether or not i am up to the effort involved.
there is a way to create new VTS. IFO files, but it looks rather involved.
if there isn't a somewhat painless method of authoring the files to be a
standard DVD again; then i'll just encode to avi, altho i wanted to avoid
this lengthy procedure, it seems not so time consuming as this is kinda
becoming. thanx for the advice peeps, and i'm still open to suggestions,
so if you know how to do this, please share the knowledge!!
    thnx, -ssf-

Sorry, but as I can come to no other conclusion than that we're discussing a commercial DVD release (That's the only ones I know of where copy protection could be an issue) that you no longer have in your possession, but nevertheless have a backup of, I'll have to close this thread. If my assumptions are wrong, please drop me a PM and we'll sort it out, superspeedfreak.
