  1. My Sony CyberShot digital still camera captured a mpeg-1 video file. I just want to turn the video from portrait orientation to landscape orientation (i.e. rotate 90 degrees). I tried the TMPGEnc MPEG Editor 2.0 Trial Version but when it tries to open my file, it says
Cannot apply smart-rendering on this file.
Cannot retrieve in the file the information needed to perform a smart-rendering. Impossible to add this clip.
This file may be a variable bitrate MPEG-1 vido where it is not possible to retrieve the highest bitrate ....
Can someone recommend a software that can just have this basic capability?

  2. If you don't need the output to be MPEG, that is, if you don't mind an AVI file, you can use VirtualDub, VirtualDubMPEG2, or VirtualDubMod.

There are loads of useful links down the left of the window to various parts of the site. From the "Tools" link it's simple enough to get:

  5. You could use AVISynth or VirtualDub to rotate the video then frame serve to the free version of TMPGEnc to encode as MPEG1. Those are all free tools. Of course, most of the commercial editors have rotation filters too.

  6. I found "MPEG Video Wizard" by Womble Multimedia, Inc http://www.womble.com/download/ It can do what I want directly - using the Rotation Filter. Just want to share this with you all.
