Go to the left-hand side of the screen and click on "DVD Writers" and input modern specs i.e. DVD+R DL and DVD-R DL support, 16x, etc. and you'll get a listing of all the modern writers out there. Read the reviews.
Probably the most popular are the NEC ND-3550A, Pioneer DVR-111, Benq DW1655, LG-4166B/4167B, and Sony DRU820A/810A. All are roughly comparable in features and price and are of the same, er, I guess you could say "genre". All are about between $33-55 at chiefvalue.com. All seem to handle RW reasonably well.
I have the ND-3550A and love it, though I haven't burned any RW in it. I have the earlier LG (4163B) and the double-layer capability blew out after about a dozen burns making it a single-layer burner, but it's RW capability is solid. And I won't buy Sony after some of the crap they've pulled - wouldn't be surprised if they put spyware in their drives: they sure didn't mind putting it in their CDs. Apart from that, frankly, I don't think it matters all that much.
What matters more is what media you are using. -
SONY's 810A is a rebadged BENQ 1640 & the SONY 820A is a rebadged BENQ D60 drive. SONY also uses LITEON drives. BENQ 1650/1655 are good drives to use as well as the PIONEER 111 which I recently purchased. I'm partial to the BENQ drives because it is a good all around burner to use.
I paid $36.00 for the PIONEER 710 drive which is the retail version of the PIONEER 111D drive. Best Buy had the drive on sale a few weeks ago with a instant rebate of $40.00 plus a online coupon for a additional 12% discount. Too good of a deal to pass up.
