    is there a way to convert dvix to avi? if so what would the program be? thanks

    So is the question more "how to convert it from divx to ???" ... xvid

    .divx is a hacked version of the AVI container AFAIK but with DivX-specific support for chapters, menus etc. I'm guessing the OP has a .divx file and wants to recode into an AVI container.

    You can convert a .divx file to a .avi file by simply renaming it. Any player should simply ignore the extra divx data (menus, chapters, subtitles, etc).

    If you really need to remove that extra stuff you can use any of the VirtualDub variants in Direct Stream Copy mode as Bjs recommended.
