You can add another CD media code to the worthless pile. This one is called Multi Media & Machinary. Yup that's the media code. I bought these under the "Natural" brand. They're sold in 25 pc. I found out too late that the Princos are only sold in the 50pc packs under the same brand. The major problem with Multi Media & Machinary is that you can't burn past 600megs if you're burning data. Music for some reason seems to work to about 690MB. Both Nero and Record Now have trouble with burning the header after the 600 limit. 6 coasters were the result. The Irony is if you burn under 500MB the resulting scans in Nero CD/DVD are pretty good. Over that gets you all sorts of errors. Ritek CDs are looking better everyday.

    You're kidding right?

People still need them for music, small data files, photos, etc. Why waste most of the space on a DVD-R when a CD will do?

The question is why are you wasting money on junk brands? If you are putting valueable data on these discs, you should be thinking about better quality media.

There are many brands better than Princo and Ritek. If you wait for a sale, you can get some decent Verbatim or Sony discs for $9-10 per 50-spindle at stores like OfficeMax and Staples.

The absolute best brands would be Mitsui/MAM-A and Taiyo Yuden. Maxell and Fuji discs "made in Japan" are Taiyo Yuden discs. Mitsui/MAM-A discs you have to mail-order - they aren't so cheap but you can't beat them for quality/reliability (especially the gold ones).

As I stated I bought the above crap media by mistake. The Princo media I was using under that same brand called "Natural" garnered very good scans in Nero CD/DVD. The burns are clean and based on the data at hand and my present experience with it, I trust it, and I'd definitely recommend it. I certainly wouldn't classify it as being as bad as Ritek, or worse Plasmon. Not all Japanese CD brands are gold. I believe Lord Smurf himself stated that Maxells are usually as bad as Ritek. If not one and the same. I assure you there's no such thing up here as "deals" on CDs with any of the chains. They all have to pay a certain CD levy. One which I'm loath to pay. I deal with small retailers.
