Does anyone know if any of the first batch of HD DVD releases from the movie studios are on red-laser media (a.k.a. HD DVD-9)?

Last week, while I was at Circuit City, I saw a DVD title that was nicly
packed in what looked like of new form of packaging. I thought it was
curious looking, and had a closer look at it.

To my surprise, it was a HD DVD movie, in HD format. I forget the movie
title, but the case was arrow-dynamic looking.

    - Here's a thought.. why not just to to CC and pick up a dvd movie
in HD, and have a look'sees at it. They're the same price anyways. $19 bucks.

  6. No DVD based HD movies, but there are HD movies on VHS tape though (search JVC D-theatre).

It dosen't mean you can't have HD content on a regular DVD-just that no DVD player is equipped to read/display HD content-and likely never will be.

The licensing requirement for HD-DVD states:

    3.2.2 Required functions
Standalone HD DVD-Video Player for consumer use shall comply with the following functions:
    1) Playback disc
The player shall play HD DVD-ROM discs and 3x-speed DVD-ROM discs containing HD
DVD-Video content specified in DVD Specifications for High Definition VIDEO.

So any player sporting an HD-DVD logo will playback HD DVD-9 discs

I said DVD player, don't confuse that with HD-DVD player.
