TOSHIBA has a new DVD recorder ... model D-RW2 ... and right now BEST BUY has it for $127.49 ... I noticed it just today while browsing the BEST BUY website. PLEASE NOTE that this price is for BEST BUY website purchases only ... also I have no idea how long this sale will last. The regular non-sale price is listed as $149.99 which is probably also the current in-store price.

I have to admit I don't know anything about the D-RW2 other than it seems to be a very basic model but the current models (like the D-R4 and the RD-XS34) have been praised by many members here at VIDEOHELP.COM and since the price is so cheap I thought I would mention it.

I did look on the TOSHIBA website and they have this D-RW2 model listed but it is so new that no manual is available yet for download so that limits the information to what is on the TOSHIBA and BEST BUY websites ... which is just very basic information.

So I am wondering if anyone has one of these and if so what can you tell us about it?

I think right off the bat, what looks nice is the DVD-R/RW for recording.
From what I have seen, most have only allowed DVD+R/RW

I might go and grab this to check it out.Been wanting to 'capture' TV and been told to go the DVD recording route, so why not.Not a heavy price either.

Remember that this is a special INTERNET only price.

However I think (stress think) that you can order on-line and then pick it up at a local BEST BUY store yet still get the special on-line only price.

My guess would be to order it before the end of tomorrow (as in Saturday the 6th of May 2006) as I have a feeling that that is the cut off for the sale ... although I am not 100% on that.

If you get it ... let us know your experiences with it

  4. My sister just bought one from a BB store for $140. They don't do RAM, that's probably why they are cheaper than the D-R4 and D-R5.

  8. Just a reminder, this Toshiba D-RW2 is actually made by Funai (Sylvania), not made by Toshiba.

If that is true then I guess it is completely different than the other Toshiba models.

Which means this model should be avoided!

Assuming what waltchan said is true ... unless this is another "wild goose chase" ala the Orion/Toshiba debacle that waltchan started on the AVS Forum?!?!?!
