  1. I just bought a Samsung HL-S5687W DLP last week.

after reading lot of forums & review, I bought the Toshiba HD-A1 at my local bb. Since I coudn't find it any where else, I was surprised and bought it immediately. But after i bought it, i came to know that it was returned by someone(there was a sticker saying "inspected by bb"). When i opned the box, there is no power cord in it. I used my PC power cord and tried to play my standard dvd through HDMI. I was keep getting message "no signal". I tried Standard DVD , HD DVD. nothing worked. finally i returned the HD-A1.

even though i coudn't watch the movie using HD-A1, I felt that this dvd player take lot of time to load and play.also it is very slow responding to the remote.

Is there any other better upconvert dvd player? I read something about samsung HD-960 which can upconvert to 1080p. anyone has any comment on this samsung dvd player?

From the reviews that I have read, the HD-A1 is one of the best. Plus it has the capability of playing actual HD discs.

For the money, I would recommend the Oppo. I love mine.

  3. You have to set the HD-A1 to output through the HDMI by pressing the remote button labelled 'V.output' You won't see anything until you do that. I have the HD-A1 and it does an outstanding job upscaling standard DVD's. Go back to BB and get a new one out of the box...oh yeah, and return that samsung DLP and get a Toshiba DLP or the LCD flat panel. Samsung makes horrible TV's (just my opinion, of course).

The OPPO has been a highly reccommended DVD player for a while now due to it's high quality of output.

It does up conversion to 720p or 1080i but it also has a lot of other nice features such as being region code free which allows playback of any DVD in the world and yes it even does excellent PAL to NTSC conversion for PAL DVD discs. It also supports XviD and DivX playback.

Of course it will not play HD-DVD or Blu-Ray 8)

  5. Thanks for all your reply ! I returned my HD-A1 . Because of the deamand for HD-A1 I couldn't find another one in BB.
Finally I ordered the Oppo digital from their website. I kind of liked their support for the firmware update. They are providing the new remote which is better than the old one.

I will be getting the dvd player tomorrow.
