  1. I used TMPGEnc Plus to convert a video clip in asf format to Super VCD NTSC format. I used the project wizard with all defaults. However the output mpg file plays with no audio. Any idea what did I do wrong ?

  3. AVICodec says that the audio of the original Video clip is :

    Audio : 817 KB, 32 Kbps, 8000 Hz, 1 channels, 0x11 = IMA ADPCM

I am not sure if this is mp3 or what it is. The entry you point me to says to convert the audio to wav first. What tool should I use to convert the audio ? Thanks in advance.

Get the virtualdub that works with ASF (???v1.3???),
load the file and save the audio as .WAV.

This is NOT an MP3 it's ADPCM (=adaptive delta pulse code modulation, IIR). It's a type of NON-psychoacoustic compression. That is, not related to MP3/AC3/DTS/AAC etc.

Actually, most any standard Windows audio app should be able to work with it once it's in WAV form. I'm surprised TMPGEnc couldn't handle it, but maybe it was confused by the ASF container.

Use CoolEdit, Audition, Audacity, Goldwave, Soundforge, Quicktime, ProTools etc. to work with this. Heck, even "Sound Recorder" should be able to convert to standard LPCM wav.

Once it's in WAV format, do the usual conversions (via TMPGEnc --> mp2, or other apps --> ac3).

  5. I used virtualdub v1.3c. however I got the following error when opening the ASF clip.

    ASF:illegal object fragment flags 76 in packet at 378000 packet size=4000, pp-12,send time:13:18:53:02

    Any idea ?

Sounds like something may be corrupt in the file. Try an ASF/WMV stream corrector/repair (couple of apps out there), and/or remux to a new ASF/WMV stream with WinMedia's "Stream Editor".

    Good luck!...

  7. But this ASF clip plays fine using windows media player (video and audio is fine). I just want to put it to VCD so that it can be viewed on regular TV using desktop player. This is for my grandma who has no knowledge of computer.
Is there any other way to get an ASF file to play on regular desktop player ? It seems that I am stuck with this virtualdub error.

But first make yourself sure it is an .asf or .wmv file. Seems to me you can't see the file extension.

  9. This is the output of AVICodec reading the video clip.
    File: 37 MB (37 MB), duration: 0:03:28, type: ASF, 1 audio stream(s), quality: 29 %
    Video: 37 MB, 1494 Kbps, 11.663 fps, 320*240 (4:3), M4S2 = ISO MPEG-4 Video V1, Supported
    Audio : 817 KB, 32 Kbps, 8000 Hz, 1 channels, 0x11 = IMA ADPCM, Supported

So it is a ASF file and the extension of the file is .ASF.
It is a clip of my grand son learning to walk taken uisng a web cam type device, not by any regular Video camera. It displayed as a .ASF file on my computer and it plays fine under Windows media player. I really want to share it with my mom oversea who has no computer. SO I like to make it to a VCD or anything that can play on a regular desktop player.
