  1. Ive tried backing up Chronicles of Narnia and Chicken little, i use dvd decrypter to rip and then shrink with dvdshrink, they rip with no problem but neither will shrink, i keep getting dvdshrink has encountered a error and cannot continue. Does any one know why? Or can anyone recommend different programs that will work? Any advice is appreciated.

    Yes.

Make certain you use the latest version of DVDFabDecrypter. This is a must.

The latest Disney fims are using Macrovision Ripguard. They (Disney and Macrovision) continue to try new variations of this copy protection scheme, in order to try to stump the various rippers that are in existence. If you need more info on this, do a search using "Ripguard" as a keyword. Or, you can try the names of some of the recent Disney movies (examples might include "Madagascar" or "Chronicles of Narnia" or "Chicken Little").

  5. Yeah, and it might be a good idea after decrypting with the latest version of DVDFab Decrypter, to run it through FixVTS or VobBlanker. This is more important for making AVIs, where you'll get unsynched audio if you don't, but it's still a good idea. Remove the unreferenced cells.

I did a backup of Chicken Little to loan to a friend ( I don't lend out originals) using DVD-RB: no issues. On other movies using Shrink - FixVTS has worked whenever I used it without a hitch. manono is correct.

I wouldn't use shrink with Narnia. The amount of compression necessary would surely destroy the flick. I'd recommend using a dual layer disc to truely backup this movie.

Noticed that. So used 2to1 than shrink. Don't know why 2to1 is good at doing but it does fix those kinds of problems. If I intend to go from 2to1 than shrink, I will set the file size in 2 to1 to9gig.

Supposedly you don't have to use FixVTS or Voblanker with the latest version of DVDFabDecrytor. At least that's what the chang log says (since version 2966).

I usually don't use DVDFab Decryptor - only on the toughest ones to rip.

Maybe one out of 20 or so DVDs.

I still use DVD Decryptor - out of respect to LightningUK, and due to the
fact the rips are super fast on the plextor.

  14. I backed up Chicken Little with DVDfabDecrypter and it worked just fine. I am not familiar with the differences of DVDfab vs. DVDfabDecrypter, but perhaps there is a problem there.

I had no problems in ripping "Chicken Little" with DVDFAB DECRYPTER. Try ripping it in another computers dvdrom or dvdrw. Or return the disc and get a new one.

Chicken Little, ripped in DVD Decrypter 3.5.4.0 and then did this:
    http://forum.digital-digest.com/showthread.php?t=56078

    Worked fine.

CL is one of those movies that makes you want to scream and throw the remote through the tv set. Stupid PUOs and crappy authoring work, navigating the disc and being forced to wait through warning screens alone takes about 5 minutes on the original copy. Ridiculous! That was my sole reason to make a copy to watch, now I can press buttons on the remote and make it move, not give me little "no no" icons.

  22. Yeah, I do it with PgcEdit and the PSL2 Plugin as well.

    Advantages:
    1) It's got a wizard, any fool can do it. Automates the process using DVDDecrypter, FixVTS, VobBlanker, and DVDShrink.
    2) If it doesn't need a PSL2 file, it won't waste the time making one. If, on the other hand, you used another method and had trouble- well, you just wasted all that time. So I use it exclusively, whether there's protection or not.
    3) Works every time.
    4) Doesn't need updates.
    5) Can clean up navigation structure (FixVTS/VobBlanker) and verify its integrity (DVDShrink).
    6) Can create and burn ISOs from within PgcEdit.
    7) Good help files.

    Disadvantages

Most recently did the Narnia movie (Ripguard), no trouble. For the same reason as LS- goddamn PUOs.
    Pull! Bang! Darn!
