A university is showing a lecture this weekend but because of scheduling conflicts, I can't attend in person. However, they will be streaming the live video via Real Player. So I'd love to capture this stream to watch later.

About 2 years ago, I remember downloading utilities to attemp to record Real Player video. I tried out half a dozen software packages and NONE of them actually worked. I have no idea if you needed a magic combination of DirectX + video card driver + whatever but I gave up. I'm familiar with computers in general (I can author DVDs, audio CDs, Adobe Photoshop, C++ programming, etc) so complexity is not the problem---it just needs to work.

Today, I just did a google search again for the same type of tool but some of the hits look familiar to me. So before I go download them all (and waste time again), I'd like to get members' advice on what actually works and what the most reliable tool is. Obviously, I only get one shot at this this weekend and I want to avoid headaches of recording hiccups/restarts/crashes.

Thanks for the info.
