I am looking for a reasonably priced DVD Recorder with Harddisk. I would prefer to have all DVD formats recordable.
    I had two short listed.
LG - RH177 - New 80GB HDD, Dual Layer DVD burning recorder
LiteOn - LVW-5045GDL+ - 160GB, Dual Layer DVD support and also writes to CDs.

I am actually a bit confused which one to go for. Both have some plus and some minus. LiteOn seems to have more customer views - possibly because of being in market for longer time.

Any comments on which one is a better choice ?

Either would be fine. You've got a couple decent choices there.

I was checking differences - not majors.
LiteOn has lot of reviews '(both bad and good) -since its in market for longer time - LG doesnot have.
LG is in consumer electronics - so could be the products are more user-friendly than LiteOn.
But its always confusing - I was finally thinking on LiteOn but suddenly the price seems to be picking up - so thinking of waiting or probably going for LG.
Its a hard decision to make.

  6. Would steer clear of the LiteOn.

I had the older 5045 model and there are just so many niggly problems. From what I can tell the later models aren`t much of an improvement.

I upgraded to a Panansonic DMR-EH50 and never looked back.

Toshiba RD-XS54 is another fine machine that produces excellent video quality.
