Unlocking Moto V555 GSM

A friend of mine was given a Motorola V555 GSM Mobile phone when on holiday and the phone was locked, i have managed to unlock a phone beofre to make it sim-free but my friend had already tried entering the code and failed when she gave me the phone it did still say enter code, but then someone snatched it off me to have a look at the phone and when i got the phone back i turned it on and all it say now is 'please contact service provider' and there is now nowhere to enter a code, so the dope must have tried entering the code and locked it completly DOH!!! The problem im not sure who the provider is, so cant contact them and it was also from the States and im in the UK,

So my question is is there anyway i can still unlock the phone?

Thanks smearbrick i tried howardfourums but haven't had much of a response yet, i though that maybe someone here had experienced a similar problem and solved it
