1) I LOST ALL THE 1000 FILES that I was copying over ..(Not in hard disk , and not in DVD RAM )
a) any chance of recovering that ?
b) I still have some files on DVD Ram from the previous batch of files cut and paste over from the hard disc

They should still be on the hard disk, unless the disk itself is corrupted. Don't write anymore to the hard disk if you want to recover them. You could try a data recovery program. I haven't tried this one, but it's freeware: http://www.pcinspector.de/file_recovery/uk/download.htm

ARe you asking me not to write to that piece of DVD RAM ? -
Don't try and put all 1000 files in the root directory. Create a sub-directory and put them in there. Also, make sure you are copying the files and not moving them.

Forget those other rescue tool's ... drive rescue is the best , and free .
Recover from hard drive ... not dvdram . -
In future, when you want to move over important files, ALWAYS use the "copy & paste" and NEVER the "cut & paste" option, just in case something unexpected occurs as happened. This way, you still have the original files. Once copying is completed, then you can delete the files from the source safely if required.
Do not use the hard drive for any other purpose until you recover your files. Try using File Scavenger to recover any lost files.
