HELP stand alone dvd recorder to pc problems
Can Anyone Help Me Please? Can anyone recommend a Program that lets you copy off tracks from a dvd recorded on a stand alone dvd recorder to a pc? Does it have to be the VOBs or can you copy using another method????
I have used DVDDecrypter, DVDFabExpress, DVDShrink, FixVTS and ISOBuster.

I am trying to take the dvd to my pc from the Stand Alone Dvd and copy off the VOBs and all and make a full disk backup.

First, my stand alone dvd recorder is a Lite-On 5006 dvd recorder...my pc is a Dell dimension 4600 running windows XP..I can give more info on this just don't know what is needed...
Here is what I have done...

In file mode, tried to use DVDDecrypter to copy all vobs to pc but it always has trouble and can't read either VOB4 or VOB5...mostly VOB5...
ISOBuster has read errors and I don't know what to do when the screen comes up that asks to skip the section, put in zeroes, or put in dummy data...which option should I choose? Will this mean that the whole section will not copy and be choppy?
DvdFabExpress reads most of the problem dvds but skips what it can not read making the video choppy or it will freeze at a certain point on the new copy that is made where the problem area is located.
I always get a copy error when doing VOB5 on most of these troubled dvds and don't understand why. These dvds I have made in my stand alone dvd recorder play fine in my stand alone dvd recorder and other dvd players and on my pc.
They are new dvds and are name brands...the Maxells I use are the ones that were made in Japan...the sonys are made in Japan but I can not copy those for some reason, my pc really had trouble reading these especially VOB4 & mostly VOB5.
Would it be because my stand alone Liteon Recorder's laser is doing something to the dvd to prevent copying on the computer or that it is not compatible with the computer??? or that it is not that great of a dvd recorder???

when I have successfully copied all VOBs using DvdDecrypter or DVDFabExpress then I fix them using FixVTS and fix the whole dvd because with lite-on I learned I have to do this to fix the dvd ...then I open in DVDShrink to fix all the the pack header problems and make an ISO file to then burn with DVDDecrypter...this has worked on 4 out of 6 DVDs of a series of DVDs that I have tried to copy and the two I have had problems with ...the one I understand because it is a different brand (Sony DVD+R) which I have had trouble copying in my PC for some reason but the one dvd is the same brand (Maxell DVD+R) that the other 4 were that I had no problems copying. I have also had trouble making a copy on the computer of Maxell dvd-r that I did in my stand alone dvd recorder and this perplexes me as these were the ones Made in Japan and are great media...I do use great name brand media...I cleaned my laser on my pc dvd drive...it seems I've had more trouble reading and copying these files since I cleaned the laser on the pc as I have not been able to make an error free copy since then.

I tried uploading Daemon Tools but could not get the drive to recognize my dvd drive...it kept adding drives onto my system and not let me use existing drives...it added like drive k, l, m, n and I don't even have those...so I could not see if this would work.

Why are dvd+rw recormended to do this? In my stand alone dvd recorder, dvd+rw do not need to be finalized..would I need to finalize them to make a copy onto another type of dvd like a dvd-r or dvd+r since they need to be finalize? That is why I have not used dvd+rw for this as I do not know the answer to this question.

Any Help would be greatly appreciated as I don't really know what to try next or where to turn.

Thank you in advance for any assistance.

Check the firmware level on your Lite-On recorder. Update it to the latest if necessary.

My LW-5005's disks would not read with DVDshrink and DVD decryptor and NERO before I upgrade the firmware.

Warning the Macrovision hack is lost and cannot be restored when you upgrade.

Then you may be having problems with the PC DVD drive. Can you try the discs in another drive or computer? A standalone DVD player may play them fine, but that's not the same as transferring data with zero errors into a PC.

The firmware upgrade oldandinthe way suggested may help, but make sure your PC drive isn't part of the problem.

How do I go about finding out about the firmware level on my Lite-On recorder and if I need to upgrade it? and where do I upgrade it? the lite-on website??? what does the firmware update do? How do I do a firmware update? Is it hard? Can I mess up the dvd recorder doing the upgrade? What does the upgrade do/fix???
and what is the Macrovision hack that is lost? I am not familiar with any of this stuff...this is all new to me.

    thanks very much!
