i'm pretty sure this has posted before but i find my problem unique. see i have downloaded a movie in the format .DVDRip.XviD-QiX. this file came with a .SUB file. now i want to convert it to dvd to play in a standalone dvd player with the subtitles enabled. so far only media player classic can do this on the computer. i have downloaded the relevant codecs: Xvid, Divx, FFdshow and everything i could possibly require. i want to know if there is a converter which will do this all for me? is dvd authoring necessary? also if i say convert an avi to dvd, does the quality increase or does it just convert and exand the file? i don't see much of a difference thus my question. replies would be greatly appreciated as it would finally solve my problem of finding a good converter. (am currently using winavi and it falls tremendously short of my expectations.) any links would also help.

    thanks
    cheers

To view the file on a standalone player, you would have to convert to MPEG-2 compliant video. Then you can add the subtitles when you author with a authoring program that can accept them. If you are just viewing on your computer, your player program can display the subtitles. I use VLC player most often. You may have to convert the subtitles to a different form for DVD use. You might try ConvertXToDVD. It has an older freeware version available and I believe it can handle subtitles. WinAVI is not that popular around here.

And you would get better answers to subtitle questions in our Subtitle Forum. Check the stickies to the top of the forum and you may see your answers. Moving you to the Subtitle Forum.
