Well it's almost that time of year again.

I wonder who the WINGS will be playing against. This is the fifth out of eleven seasons they've won the presidents trophy for best in the league. Pretty darn good And I'm glad to see Shanahan having a great year (almost 40 goals). And same for Zetterberg.

Babcock has done a really good job without the 80 million dollar spending money other Wings coaches have been used to - nor the last minute blockbuster trade to get top-notch talent.

  4. Well, being a life long hockey fan, Im hard pressed to bet against Detroit. All aspects of their game are top notch. Although, Detroit has proved before that they can be beaten by lesser teams.

After the first 2 months of the season, I would have said Ottawa was a favorite. However, I was just waiting for their collapse (and this is from a big hometown fan of the team). Sure enough, they didnt disappoint. They didnt even wait until the playoffs this year. Having said that, if they can pull their act together, they WILL be tough to beat. But if they play like the last 8 games, they are out in 4.

Calgary is another team that has a good shot. With Kipper "the shut out king" in nets, anything is possible. If San Jose can keep Big Joe and little Cheech firing, they will be hard to beat as well.

Ultimately, I think the cup goes to the west this year.

Forget the Stars. They were our team: the North Stars. Of all the teams Minnesota should have kept that was the one that made the most sense. The Hockey Hall of Fame (or at least one of the two) is in MN. And since North Dakota doesn't have an NHL team (go Sioux!) the North Stars had quite a following. Once they moved to Texas (of all places for a hockey team to go) they went right to my list of teams to cheer against. I'd rather the Vikings got the hell out of town

However the Wild are still too new to be in the playoffs, though we get close sometimes. And the Excel is a pretty nice venue for hockey here. Too bad every NHL venue pales in comparison to Engelstad Arena 8)

I just love watching hockey otherwise. Now that the WCHA tournies are over I can turn to NHL until next season.
