  1. Hello,
Concerning the news on the upcoming SONY PS-3 being region free, does that also apply for PS-1 & PS-2 games from any region or just for the PS-3 games?

    Thanks in advance.

I doubt it. Even though Sony appears to be opening the borders I would be amazed if they made it retroactive. Chances are the old region locks would still be in effect.

  4. Well, if it plays all games from all regions, I'll be sure to get one.
    If not..
    Well, the hell with it.

Well if they made the machine region free why would it not play other games that are region encoded ??

And if they made the new ps3 games region free it would make no sense to region encode the machine

Except to maybe still control dvd movies.

the PS1 and PS2 capability will be emulated, like PS1 is on the PS2.
I've been wondering this same thing.
It seems to me that it would be farily easy to make the PS1 & PS2 emulation on PS3 region free?
I sure hope so, but there's always GameShark (won't make an NTSC machine play PAL games tho!).
My PS1 GameShark works just fine in the PS2 and the PS2 GameShark came with a PS1 'best of' disc that works too. I've been playing Japanese PS1 and PS2 games with no problems at all, and using the GameShark is really only a minor inconvenience.
