  1. I'm looking for an XviD encoder that works as fast as ffmpegX but which will accept QT reference files as the source video. Currently I'm using MPEG Streamclip, but its encoding is s-l-o-w. Do I have any options?

QT Pro, with 3ivx codec or XVID codec installed?
I think your only problem is that the file is not self contained,
which is why MPEGStreamclip may be having fits.
