Does the cam show up in My Computer when you plug it in and turn it on?

Isn't MicroDv some weird Sony proprietary format? If you do a Google search, it looks like you have to use Sony's MovieShaker or DVGate software to capture - did this come with your camcorder?

  5. yea micro is about 1/3 of minidv and camcorder is about the size of a digital camera....but your right I have to use movieshaker to capture but it did not come with the camcorder and sony doesnt offer that online for download. If you could find it and post a link i would appreciate it very much.

    Here's a link to Version 3.0

    http://www.sony-digital-camera.co.uk/downloads/MovShake_300105180.exe?product_id=589)#_id=0

Otherwise in my search, I saw mention that Ulead Videostudio and Pinnacle Studio are supposed to support MMV

Once you get the capture sorted, you may also be interested in this prog
    mmv2mpg

    Hope this helps!

MicroMv is not DV at all, it is a variation of MPeg2 although this cam link I'm looking at shows it has a I-Link connector.

    Strange beast.
It looks like they are including a CD for Movie Shaker 3.1

If you buy a proprietary SONY product, then you are locked into their proprietary software.

    DeeLync,

I completely understand your frustration with Sony and their capture utility. It doesn't make any sense to make a camcorder which is incompatible with most capture programs - isn't that why we have universal standards. I found out about Sony's compatibility problem when my wife bought a Sony MircoMV camcorder. I tried to capture using a variety of programs including Premiere, Vegas Video, Ulead, ect. None of these mainstream programs would accept and interact with the camera. I then turned to Sony's proprietary movieshaker (which I hate) and had to record into .mmv format. edDV is correct, I realized that .mmv is really a MPeg format. All I had to do was import my movies via movieshaker and then change the extension from *.mmv to *.mpg - easy huh - and the imported file played flawlessly in every application. I do not know of any program, other than movieshaker, which will import from a Sony MicroMV. If anyone else knows of a program, patch, or update, please let me know. Also, another interesting note, most programs will accept *.vob files (ripped from dvds) if you change the extension from *.vob to *.mpg.

    Best of Luck
