    Hello.

First let me explain my experiences. About 3 weeks ago I had 32 gigs of video files vanish. Now I didn't delete them, they just completely vanished. Before they vanished I was using Videoredo on one of the mpegs that was in the folder to cut out commercials. I freaked out but no recovery program on the planet could seem to repair them, because it always saw the files as being 0kb. Flash Foward to today, Everything has been fine for 3 weeks, no files has vanished or anything. I first though it was windows getting rid of stuff to free up space, but I had 65 gigs free already. So anyway I use Videoredo on one of the files in my folder of dvb mpegs and I cut the commercials out and save it. The exact, and I do mean exact, moment that Videoredo finished outputting the file for me, all the files in that folder completely vanished. what's really odd this time is no recovery programs even so much as list the files that vanished when before it did. It's now as if they never existed. I'm not a 100% sure it's videoredo but it seems to be so in my opinion. My sata drive is less than a year old and I've always taken good care to do defrags and scan discs. So just letting you guys know that I've had serious problems here.

    Thanks

OK! The question is why are you posting here, have you been in touch with Videoredo support? It would seem to me that should be your first step before posting speculative and alarmist messages.

I own a copy of VideoRedo and it has never lost data.

Check out Mpg2Cut2 as an alternate product if you're certain Videoredo is the culprit.

I'm not here to really put down videoredo or anything, but it's been happening only after it outputs files from that program. the only type of files that have disappeared from my system to far are video files only. They vanished as I was looking at the folder that contained them.

I read tons here and this is the first I've heard of this problem with videoredo. Try asking in their forum and see if there's a incompatibility problem with your box or perhaps a missed setting.

  6. I'll second that, Why aren't you asking VideoReDo support. I use it regularly and have never had it loose anything. Nor has it ever failed me.

I had this happen with another program (can't remember which). I had selected the clean up option thinking it would delete various temporary files created by the program but no it wiped everything in the working folder. Does VideoRedo have an option like that?

This is also the first time I have ever heard of a problem with VideoRedo but as an alternative you can try MPEG-VCR by Womble Multimedia.

However, I would definately contact VideoRedo support and once you find out what they have to say please let us know by updating this here thread.

If we assume for a second that what he says is true, Videoredo support wouldn't do squat to help him recover anything; isn't it a common knowledge?

No one has ever heard of VideoRedo behaving this way so we are saying that VideoRedo support is the place to go to as they may have a suggestion. They may be aware of something that we are not aware of. It might be some obscure setting in VideoRedo or some conflict with a Windows setting or program. They might be able to suggest how to avoid it happening again.

As for the files ... sounds like they are toast ... any way you slice it.

That might explain the seeming reluctance to contact Videoredo (..and a certain rough justice .) I hope that's not the case.

I know if I lost data and suspected a certain program, I'd be banging the developer's doors down for an answer.

I, Like mhnord, also had a program which, like him, I can't remember what it was, would wipe everything clean once it was done...It had in it's settings something like delete files when complete, or something like that..Took a bit of rsearch on my part but I found out thats what it was doing, and all I had to do was go in it's settings and uncheck the setting...In one instance I found out that a file was created in my windows temp folder, just as a tmp file with the same size it should have been in as the processed file and I simply renamed it to the file format it was supposed to be and there it was!

Ha, this remembers me about the issues in the past with the software from http://www.goldenhawk.com/ (CDRWIN).
Some versions of that program could be triggered (when hacked) to fill up all your HD's with junkfiles and causing your Windows to crash.
This kind of "protection" caused lot of controversy that time.

  16. Windows sure as hell won't do that, at least not as a normal operation.

Seems significant that the disappearances always occur in the folder where the file being worked on in VideoRedo resides.

Short answer would be to create a new folder for the project file and put only that file into it.

Would be good to know if this is a Completely Standard edition of VideoRedo. Do not need to know in exactly what way it is Non-Standard.

I have definitely seen similar behavior in other progs, anybody ever un-install the old Wing Commander after installing it to the root of C:\? It would delete all the files in the root directory.

VideoRedo seems to work well, I have not tried it since using the Demo version and cutting an NFL game. Output was limited to 30 minutes, I'm sure there was a notice of this somewhere and I missed it, but it was not glaringly obvious. After a quick check of edited file, I deleted the source files and only later discovered I was missing most of the game. The 30 minutes I had played and synched well, but I was royally pissed. My own fault, sure, but there should have been a more obvious warning.

  17. The 30 minute limit is only if you don't request the trial key. If you request and us ethe trial key it is totally functional for the duration of the trial and will output the complete length. The 30 minute only save no trial key is I suspect so they can keep a rough idea of trial vs how many buy the program.

Saw this thread on the VideoRedo site, so there may be some merit in this post! Apologies to the OP if this is the case, but it just seemed fishy that you hadn't contacted Videoredo tech support.
