I've had a problem with certain xvid files recently where the bottom of the image gets corrupted/scrambled occasionaly.

I uninstalled 3ivx and made sure no xvid components were in my quicktime library folder. After doing so I found that quicktime still played my xvid movies, even after a reboot.

I can only assume divx is playing them, how exactly do I stop this from happening?

I don't have the xvid delegate component installed either.

Why would you want a video player to not play video files?

  3. You can try MPlayerX or VLC for your xvid files...To set one of mentioned player as default for xvid files choose "Get Info" on file and under "Open with:" drop menu choose default app for playing that type of moovs...
