    Own a Sony DCR-HC21 Mini-Dv recorder.
I took some footage of my band.

I have 2 capture programs installed:
    a) Camera came with software called "Sony Picture Package".
This capture program saves the video as a MASSIVE uncompressed AVI.

    b) MS-Movie Maker.
This writes the video as a WMV file.

I will use MovieMaker, b/c my goal is to share COMPRESSED clips on the web.
    The WMV is about 4MB/minute.

QUESTION: What program can I use to EDIT the WMV and make it BRIGHTER?
    MovieMaker des not have this
(Free preferred, but I am willing to buy a decent, easy to use app.)

QUESTION: What software can I use to rip the WMV audio into MP3?
(Free preferred, but I am willing to buy a decent, easy to use app.)

QUESTION: If I want to make a TV ready DVD, I should capture as HUGE AVI, and then convert to MPG, right?

  3. I recommend Ulead VideoStudio for transfering DV,editing, exporting to WMV,extracting MP3 and authoring a DVD.Another free app for WMV is WME.
There are many freeware tools to do each request but Ulead VS does them all.
BTW...if you are going to stream video I recommend WMV because 90% PC's support it without additional codecs.Divx is good but a user must have the codec installed to watch.
