    Can anyone give me a quick explanation of what ffmpegx is and what it does.

    Thanks. Is this software going to be any better/faster then toast 6 for converting DV to MPEG2.

    Dylan,

    Not only will you see faster encoding/decoding, but the tools used are easily customizable through ffmpegX. I have found ffmpegX to do better quality conversions quicker... These recent benchmarks are pretty convincing:

    Well I've just tested it. Using toast 6 to convet DV to MPEG2 caused artifacting when I panned the camera fast. ffmpegx didn't.
