I did it in 48 seconds in 1982.The record at that time was 32 secs.

I just saw last week a kid got it down to 11 secs

Never did solve one. Took one apart one time. Pretty clever joint as I recall.

    Same here....
I couldn't finish it so one day I just peel off the colors and stick them back to the cube and threw it alway..
Just goes to show you that there are more than one solution to a problem.

  4. I am only able to solve one side.

I take it apart all the time.

One of the fastest guys that I ever watched do one was like some kind of friggin genius. He had a cool trick where he could take a cube that you mixed up and say that he could "put these fingers on these squares and solve the puzzle without taking his fingers off of those squares" I don't remember exactly how many fingers he used, but I think it was like three on one hand (a thumb, index and ring finger maybe and mabe the same or less on the other hand) But he would use his unoccupied fingers to move the cube and with a few twist of the wrist and a few spins with the fingers he would solve the cube pretty damn fast! You would think that he would be braiding his fingers into knots. It looked like he was pulling and pushing the cube apart almost or fighting to get out of a straight jacket. He would look at the cube real good as he chose the squares to put his fingers on and calculate his moves and then in what looked like about 6 to 10 moves he was done!

Man it was like watching that David Blaine street magic (and I admit it could have all been a hoax for all I know), but we would all just be blown away by watching him do it. Just a wild guess, I would say that he spent maybe 30 seconds to a minute just looking at the cube and laying his fingers on it, maybe more but not much and then like 30 seconds to actually move the puzzle to the solved position. Maybe more but it seemed a lot faster sometimes. The trick was about not taking the dedicated fingers off of the cube, not speed really.

I had a friend that could solve it blindfolded. He studied the cube for about a minute, then while he held it in both hands someone else would put the blindfold on. I didn't realize it at the time, but this was probably a variation on the "finger placement" trick.

Around 52 seconds or so in around 1982. Haven't really fooled with one since though...Don't even remember how to solve the top although i can solve 2/3 of it still.

    Remember the Rubik's Cube cartoon.

When they solved the cube it would come alive.

It was an alien or demon or something.

They also made that chain link version years ago.

This site shows a bunch of those puzzles. I haven't seen the pyramid or sphere in ages.

I cuold never do it. I would just cheat and break it apart and then finish it

I would then do a few moves that I could then reverse and make it look like I was doing it . One time I got my mate to learn a sequence of mixing it up a little more so I could reverse that also

I never could solve the cube. The pyramid I could always solve in under a minute.

  16. A Rubric cube has appeared downstairs. No idea who it belongs to, and when I try to do anything with it I just seem to mess it up even more!

How do you go about solving one of those? Maybe Google time, but does anyone have any individual methods they find work best?

10lb. sledge hammer is optimum, anything more is over kill, anything smaller just doesn't have the surface area on the face of the hammer for the desired effect. Always wear eye protection and sturdy work clothes, plastic shrapnel can penetrate soft tissue and doesn't show up on X-Rays.

look under algorhythms. They look complicated but are actually easy when you figure them out.

I can still do it. Probably in 5 minutes or so. I've forgotten a couple of the final moves to do it quicker.

The way I learned was to get them in layers. Top layer first, easy enough. Second layer, very easy, only one series to know. Third/bottom layer, get the corners first, not too bad only 5 -6 major moves. Then get the middle ones on the bottom. This is where I've forgotten a few things. Basically, if you can get it so one of them is in the correct position (needing only three middle ones on the bottom) then your at most two moves away.

Damn. I know what I'll be doing tonight....
    Have a good one,
