Hi I'm supose to make a budget as if I was really going to hire/buy them. What are the things you would need to budget on for a making a interactive cd-rom (interactive as in website on a cd with extra effects). Software & Computer is not counted cause it is supplied already. I'm guessing Authoring, Printing & Delivery would need to be budget so anyone can give me more things that need to be budget?

Interactive is pretty vague and open. It could be anything from Director authored down to straight html and a little java script.

Production costs can best be found by looking up your local yellow pages and making a few calls. Costs will vary by number, type of printing, covers etc. You should be able to get a few verbal ball park quotes pretty quickly.

Do you have to count person hours for development in your costs ?

You would have to go through the entire development life cycle from beginning to end and assign hours and associated costs to each step. You could start with initial consultation (if you are developing this for a client). Follow that up with research and planning. During the planning stage, you could fine tune the requirements of the client by story boarding the presentation. Once all of this has been tweaked, you could go into development. From development you would most likely go to code testing/troubleshooting (and it's associated costs). From here, maybe some sort of end user test. Ultimately, implementation/rollout.

You would have to know how many people are involved in this. Are you outsourcing for any of your work or are keeping this in house? Are you doing all of the work yourself?

I don't really think your question can be answered with the little information provided.

Seriously, there's nothing wrong with a little online research. Try googling on "CD Production".

You should get quite a few hits like: http://www.352media.com/services_cd_dvd.asp

Even if you don't submit a request for a quote you should learn quite a bit just by seeing the information required for a proposal.

    Good luck,
