    Hi,

I am a total n00b and this is my first post I need some help on the following pls....

I have a 700mb AVI file which I would like to burn to disk so I can play it on my dvd player so:

    1) Do I have to convert the file? If yes to what ext?
    2) Which software is best suited for this? I'm a n00b so easier the better
    3) How long on average does conversion take?
    4) Once converted when I burn the file what do I burn it as in nero?
    5) Will this reduce the quality of the avi? Its currently a divx dvd rip....

I would appreciate any help, sorry if this question has arisen before I have read different sections within this forums but could not find any help....

    Thanks in advance....

    Cheers

Add all the files you want before encoding with ConvertXtoDVD, or use DVD shrink in reauthor mode to bring all the parts together.

    Excellent!!!!

Reauthoring mode in dvd shrink worked a treat....

Now to be a lil greedy:

Is there any way I can include a menu so I can choose which file I wish to view?

Atm I have to skip thru all the 1st file to view the second file I was wondering if it would be possible to add a menu so at the beginning I have a choice of which file I would like to view?

Perhaps there is an easier method as I am a n00b perhaps there is something I am overlooking?

    Please advise?

Thanks for your continued help and support I really do appreciate it

If you use ConvertXtoDVD to convert several avi files at once, it will create a simple menu at the beginning for you.

To rescue what you have done so far, you would have to use TDA instead of DVD Shrink to bring everything together.

If you use TDA, I recommend you delete the ifo and bup files first, as the ones created by ConvertXtoDVD can sometimes cause problems with TDA.

Might have to use IFOEdit to make new IFO and BUP files before TDA will read it. I just got through with a file that had been split that took me two weeks to get the audio in sync (XviD with the very popular and dreaded VBR MP3) and when I joined and converted with DivXToDVD and burned it with Shrink and Decrypter, it only burned half of the video (1st time that's ever happened) so I converted each file seperately, put all the VOBs in the same folder and used IFOedit to build the IFO files, opened with TDA, made the TS folder and used Shrink to get rid of the menu.
Two weeks is a long time to spend on a movie but after a week, it was hard to just give up and throw in the towel.

TDA can load VOB sets without having the IFO files, so IFOEdit should not be needed. It was an occassional problem with output from DivxtoDVD that would cause TDA to produce a gibberish error message. Jimmalenko provided the solution. It still occurs from time to time.

I can't remember if it just refused to open the files or if it told me that the structure was incorrect. I believe it was the latter but I didn't get a jibberish error. Since I knew to change the structure using IFO edit, I'm sure it was the structure error.
I hadn't seen either DVDdecrypter burn half of DVD or TDA refuse to open a DivXToDVD TS folder before then.
I did notice that I was having some other problems with programs and playing mpegs on the internet until I uninstalled Studio 9 which I had just installed a week or so ago (wanted to see if they had fixed any of the problems but obviously, they've only gotten worse). Those problems disappeared.
I guess I'll have to find another file to experiment on. It's like shrink and TDA both had problems reading The DivXToDVD TS folder.

Shrink would certainly need the IFO files, and may well have had a problem if the DivxtoDVD IFOs were wrong. TDA's Add Video option allows for direct loading of VOBs without IFO's, which avoids the problem.

Did you choose Full Disc or Re-author in DVD Shrink?

Did you ask for a menu when you encoded with ConvertXtoDVD ? It is on the Authoring tab under Settings. Make sure you have 'Include Menu' ticked, then change the settings to look the way you want (within it's limited abilities).

If you choose Re-author in DVD Shrink then you threw away the menus anyway.

Use TDA to bring everything together. DivxtoDVD does not do menus - you have you buy ConvertXtoDVD to get those.
