here's what an idiot I am...I attempted to transfer about 100 jpg files to a disc. I inadvertantly burned them as a vcd. I've tried everything I can think of to retrieve them. they are now in data format and I can't view them and I can't restore them. Some of them are really needed...is there any way to get them back??

The best you can do, is to play the VCD in let's say PowerDVD and take snapshots. As the images are reduced to 352x240/288 NTSC/PAL, that's as much as you'll be able to retrieve. If you're lucky, they are stored as still images, then you'll get them at twice that resolution, but that's still not much.

Your situation is worse than you think. If indeed you burned your photos as vcd then even if you can somehow get them off the cd their resolution will be that of vcd probably much lower than what you started with. There is no way to undo that.

Have you tried to view the disc using VLC? Do you have access to a DVD player that plays VCDs?

What happened to your orignal images, that you had before you transfered them to the disc?

    Linked to this...

Even if you deleted them from the media you use in your digital camera, they can (may) be recovered from there - as long as they haven't been overwritten by new photos. I'm at work, but I have software at home that I used for exactly the same thing - recovering still JPGs from a media card that I accidentally deleted.

I'll get the name and post it for you.

thanx for all of the suggestions everyone. Unfortunately...the files have since been deleted from my H/D and several system recoveries have failed to retrieve them. In addition, the files were sent to me from several different sources and none were on my digi cam mem card. So it appears that these photos are indeed but a memory. Thnx anyway.

An obvious question, but worth asking - just in case...

Have you looked in the "Recycle Bin" on the desktop?

  11. You say System Recovery, that is COMPLETELY DIFFERENT from file recovery, have you tried a good file recovery software? If possible, this should be done before any files are written to the Hard drive.
