    Hello friends,

Out of nowhere my ability to view streaming video has disappeared. Was working fine, then stoppped. This is for any and every site i've visited on the internet.

It connects, then just says "ready." Nothing else happens.

I've tried uninstalling a few things ( like quicktime) and even turned my firewall completely off. Yikes! Still nothing.

Flash still works fine. This sucks mightily as I use my streaming video quite often.

If anyone is able to help, I will bless you from afar...

    Running:
    Windows XP
    I.E.
    Zone Alarm
    WMP 10

If you can remmember the exact date when this first happen ... you should suspect any xp update after that point as a maybe ... the cause of the problem .

Just recently I received an xp update , and suddenly all my video editing tool's started saying mpeg clip appear's to have been split ... what the , they were fine yesterday ???

Had to re-encode them again .

If you have ffmpeg or other video splitter's like it installed ... uninstall them and restart the pc and see what happen's .

Numerous time's that idiot ffmpeg pop's up when I am viewing video online and they use the media player activex component ... so annoying I now have it banned from my system ... installed only for encoding purposes , then removed .

I had some issues recently and had to reinstall Microsoft Media player to fix them. Have you given that a try yet?

The problem has been plaguing me for so long that I forget whether I installed an update around that time or not!

I'm not using any video splitters though.

Thank you both for the help!
I will try and reinstall Media player and see if it helps...

Faustus: Apparently you can't uninstall WMP, you can only rollback to a revious version. I did the rollback from version 10 to version 9 but the problem persists.

Bjs: As for ffmpeg, I'm not using it or any other splitters, but I am using ffdshow as a codec pack.

I recently was able to play streaming video from a newssite (CBC) that uses MP. So I know that MP works, but most sites seem to use WMP and I still can't get anything happening with that.

    Any other suggestions.

    Thanks for you help...

Don't rollback. Just download the WMP10 installer and install it again on top of itself.
