I do apologize if this has already been answered elsewhere. I did find several threads related to subtitles, but none gave me the precise answer I need. I teach a music history class and use several opera DVDs in class. I only show one or two short scenes from each DVD and was hoping there was a (freeware-preferred) way to rip portions of each DVD to playback from the hard drive using Quicktime, iTunes, or anything else that might work. Since most of the operas are not in English I need to keep the subtitles intact. Here's what I've tried so far:
I ripped only the chapter I wanted from a DVD using Mac The Ripper. I already have the Quicktime MPEG2 component. I went to edit the clip to the right length and noticed that the subtitles were not included in the video. I've read that ffmpegx can "burn" the subtibles into the video stream, but can I do just a portion of the DVD with this? I'd appreciate any advice or hints. I also tried Handbrake, but got a clip with sound and no video. Thanks.
Anthony
