    I convert my AVIs to DVD using WinAVI. I pop the finished disc into my Zenith DVD2381 player, and I see a play symbol for a second, and then the DVD stops itself. What the hell could be causing something crazy like that?

    WinAVI is not that good of a converter. I would try the freeware version of DivxToDVD and you may get better results. As to your specific problem, not enough information to be able to guess.

    It could be the media type you are using not being recognised in your standalone. more info please ......

    It's a basic DivX file

    If I use something like dvdSanta it works fine
