For the life of me I can't maintain surround sound by using the passthrough audio option. I'm using all the default settings of .vob to divx except choosing passthrough in audio. The resulting file looks and plays great except it's stereo instead of 5.1. Source video is a .vob with 5.1 audio. It converts the file great but the audio file always is reported by quicktime and vlc as stereo.

I've tried many other setting to no avail. Anybody else experience this issue or know what I'm doing wrong? Or maybe there is a better way to go about converting a .vob to divx and maintain the surround sound. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

I think I remember seeing numerous posts on this subject on this board. I believe it went something like, the Mencoder engine doesn't support 5.1 audio, the ffmpeg engine does. Have you tried it with ffmpeg?

You might try posting the results from the info button in the ffmpegX Progress window. It helps in diagnosing the problem.

Thank you very much I will give that a try. I did search the forum for a while before I posted but I'm also new to these forums and to ffmpegx.

Thanks again for your help and I'll post with any success or problems I have.
