Hello all frequent lurker, new poster here,
The band "Toad The Wet Sprocket" has given me permission to transfer and host on the internet all of their unreleased videos. These are promo videos that we never for sale and only released as studio VHS tapes, etc.
I've been learning about transferring and purchased some equipment. Currently I am using an AG-7750 vcr, Signvideo procamp, ACE corrector and a JVC 4k DVHS to do the mpeg-2 conversion (capdvhs to record the stream).
I first run the 7750 in to the signvideo and use the meters to set the internal procamp to give me 7.5-100 IRE. Then I run the 7750 directly in to the ACE and run the ACE in to the signvideo and again adjust levels post color correction. Then I run the signal directly from the ACE in to the DVHS and capture the stream. I have the picture control on the DVHS set to "Edit".
I think everything is setup correctly but wanted some peer review. The files are mpeg-2 and about 250mb each, feel free to d/l as many as you want.

These are from standard VHS so any input or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

250mb each?
gotta be kidding...unless your target audience is 18% of the USA -
these are the source files I will use for conversion to wmv/qt/etc. I figured that evaluating them would be better than evaluating the rendered files. The final files will be hosted on archive.org and automatically be converted to a number of codecs.

i don't see what the problem is...about 10-15 minutes to download. Are you suggesting that only 18% of americans have high speed internet? And last I checked the internet was available to more than just americans
there are actually people outside these borders..they breathe, eat, and feel just as we do...it's a hard concept i know...but just imagine...... -
Those are awesome. I wish some of my captures came out looking that good. Thumbs up!

Quality over size. With all the dumbasses downloading 800MB illegal movies, there should be nothing wrong with a 250MB legal download. Not to mention an HTTP or FTP connection is shitloads faster than the P2P junk.
Your audience, fans of the group, will probably love that you've given high quality content (I assume, I've not had the chance to look at it, and won't for several days), and the filesize is honestly not unreasonable by any means.Want my help? Ask here! (not via PM!)

Agree with lordsmurf completely. Unless you have bandwith limitations, do NOT change to a more compressed format...the fans will agree.

The great thing about archive.org hosting is unlimited bandwidth and multiple formats. Here's an example of a hosted video:
http://www.archive.org/details/operation_ivy
They have a total of almost 30,000 downloads, all free to the uploader and downloader and in multiple formats, including full bit-rate mpeg-2.
If anyone has public domain footage they want to upload, this is a great place to do it.
Lordsmurf, I look forward to your critique whenever you get a chance, reading your posts was extremely helpful in putting together and setting up my transferring workstation.

I see...just a casual observation...I can't quote other nations use of hi-speed.
I opened a group at ourmedia months ago which I think is an extension of archive.org...very quiet.
So you can upload 2 or more versions...
