    Hello,
I bought a used ATI TV WONDER VE, but it came with no CD, so i downloaded drivers and ATI MMC 9.13 from ATI Website.
It works well, I can see TV, Composite In is working, but there is no option to record any video on the screen. Under options there is no option to use it as a PVR.

If I use another capture softwares it works well, but I need MMC to record closed captions to a file.

Anybody knows what is the problem with my system?

    PD I tried MMC 9.13, 9.06, 8.x, 7.x . Neither include PVR.

    MB - Intel 945GNT
    CPU - Pentium D 820 2.8 Ghz.
    RAM - 1 GB DDR2
Video - The one included on MB
    Sound - Generic PCI Card.

    Regards.

  2. Did you download all the ATI AIW components?

There is the MMC, DAO/MDAC, DVD (which you would need a cd for), and I think one other. As well, the Gemstar Guide software comes on the CD and is not downloadable from anywhere.

    Good Luck.

I downloaded all componentes from ATI TV WONDER VE section. I installed all of them, the same problem, no PVR Option.

canadateck , The link goes to a page that doesn't give info about this.

I installed in the following order...

    1) TV-WONDER PRO Drivers
    2) Encoder
    3) Multimedia Center
    4) DAO / MDAC

Also, unistalled all, then reinstall just changing order...
    3) DAO / MDAC
    4) Multimedia Center

What do you mean by "PVR"? The Guide?

That only comes on the CD. Call them and buy the CD. Expect ~$10 plu $10 shipping. But make sure that Gemstar is included. The main focus of the $10 fee is the DVD player decoder royalty fee.

The ATI DVD player alone isn't worth the fee.

Also MMC 9.13 probably doesn't support the VE. Ask about best release for VE when you call. Then tell us what they say.

I'm not looking for Gemstar, PVR = Personal Video Recorder, all i'm looking for is to can record from ATI TV-Player.

    I tried 9.13, 9.06, 8.x, 7.x , neither give me record button on TV-Player.

On the download page from ATI, it says...
    ----
    Notes:
ATI Multimedia Center™ found herein is provided as an UPDATE to previous versions included on original installation CDs for supported products. The software should not be downloaded or used for products that did not ship with ATI Multimedia Center.
    ----

Does it mean that I must have original CD?

You need to start from the original or upgrade CD. I have a 8.1 upgrade CD for my 8500DV an I don't recall having to go back further than that when I reformatted and reinstalled.

I bought mine from Canada and they charged me $10 + $10 US to ship it even though their site said 9.95 was the cost.

We all know that ATI is a disfunctional company. I got the CD last year and find no reference to it now. Best to call them.

FWIW, after numerous MMC updates for my 8500DV, I find v9.02 works OK and I'm staying there.

I have another machine with a Radeon 9550 and a 550 tuner and that has been total disaster with MMC 9.13. You can't stop it from encoding, filling the drive and crashing. It's like a runaway train.

Do you have the latest DX 9?
Do you have .NET, & if so 1.1?
Try the ati cleaner they have for download to remove all traces of ati, and then reinstall software in order. Might try the card in another slot at same time to force XP to do new driver install.

While unable to come up with anything really helpful searching ati knowledgebase, did see a few docs specifically mentioning MMC for recording with the TV Wonder VE, so it should work.

I have .NET 1.1 with SP1, DirectX 9.0c (latest directx).

I tried installing same card on another computer and it worked, so i'm happy because now I know it must work on my PC. It must be a simple problem.

I will try with cleaner utility and installing card in another slot as you said.

    Thank you for your help!

    Regards.

The ATI site keeps changing but I remember seeing somewhere that version MMC 9 only supports 85xx and 9xxx cards and the 85xx was only supported up to 9.02.
