I only use TY (Taiyo Yuden) discs, such as these: http://www.rima.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=R&Product_Code=1736-1...ode=TAIYOYUDEN

Perform flawlessly for me and work on the various brands of standalone players that I've tested them on.

I second the vote for TY discs

I know that most 'experts' on here advocate quality discs but I have found that even cheap discs work really well if booktyped and made into a DVD-ROM.

I'll second the cheap discs for the most part. Price does not determine quality.

    Tdk dvd-r , never any issue's .

    If issue ever arise's .

a: It's a bad batch (store person dropped them)
b: Issue related to operating system of burner fault .

    It's normally "b" that happen's ...

Tested on 51 diferent dvd player's - no issue's (if rule's not broken)
    Tested in 18 different dvd burners - Lite-on (avoid - incompatability issue's)

TDK was notorious in their CD-Rs for using an inferior dye, but to be fair, they weren't the only company that did so. I used the old DVDXCOPY program a few times years ago with TDK DVD+R discs and it made my old Apex DVD player go absolutely nuts and it refused to play them. I think Verbatim makes excellent media. Memorex is the crappiest I ever bought and I won't do that again.

    The suggestion to go to
    http://www.nomorecoasters.com
is excellent and the original poster can make up her own mind about media after reading it.

I have had bad experiences with cheap discs and Memorex. Just recently I've been reorganizing a bunch of data discs that I burned approx a year ago on various cheap discs and Memorex (8x white label printable). The discs tested good at the time of burning (tested with dvdinfopro). Now most of the discs have loads of crc errors and the data is lost.

I have some of the cheap discs and a couple of the Memorex (maybe 6-10 of a 50 pack) that are still good and haven't failed. From my experience and what I've read, the biggest issue with cheap media (and some name brands) is longevity. I spend extra on TY for the piece of mind. I've never had any bad burns or failures from them.

I don't know where you buy your media but I spend .25 to .30 cents on TY's or .50 to .80 cents on Memorex. TY's are cheap and good. Memorex has also been quite a good brand to me but it's cost has kept me from buying them only when I need to complete a work order.

I get mine from rima.com and as you pointed out they cost less than buying most other brands in a brick and mortar store. But somewhere in the post we went from a quality disc discussion to cost. It doesnt matter is the discs are free if your data is gone when you need it.
