    Hello !

Im new in this converting thing and wanted 2 know if anyone here could help me solve a problem with my dubbing thing. I use DVD-lab pro to demultiplex the .VOB files from my DVD backup. When I am done with that I get 2 files, one for audio(.aC3) and one for video(.mpv) I take these files to "VirtualDubMod 1.5.10.1". The .mpv file and .ac3 file are together about 3.8 GB and I want to shrik this down to 700mb.avi file, but if i do that i get very bad quality. I have seen this same file(film) I am trying to shrink in a 698mb.avi file - and the quality there was fine. I know i am doing something wrong here but cant figure it out what it is that i have to change. Hoping for someone here to get a solution for me, or is it not right to use VitualDubMod to do this, is there any other program i can use for this.

Hope you understand what I am trying to say and it would be great if some of you could help me on this.....

Ok, I tryed this FairUse Wizard and the quality there is great. But there is one problem. The DVD contains 4 .VOB files I want to keep but rippes just 3.

    VTS_01_1.VOB
    VTS_01_2.VOB
    VTS_01_3.VOB
    VTS_02_1.VOB ( skips this one .... )

How can I include this one in encoding........using FairUse Wizard?

Rip with DVDDecrypter in IFO mode, set file splitting to none, rip main title only = one VOB.

Anyone here know how to make one file out of these .VOB files so i can use Fairuse wizard to create ONE .avi file out of these .VOB's

And...I tryed this > IFO > file splitting none > main movie ... but i get only one chapter :/

  7. as far as fair use wizard, it scans the vobs looking for the main movie, which would be like the first 3 sets of vob files you have....the last one that it's not accepting is appearently some sort of special feature or something like that, you would have to take that and rip it seprartely through fair use wizard and make it a separate file altogether.....

"I use DVD-lab pro to demultiplex the .VOB files from my DVD backup. When I am done with that I get 2 files.....The .mpv file and .ac3 file are together about 3.8 GB and I want to shrik this down to 700mb.avi file"

To reach that size you're talking about using one of the mp4 types of video compression -- which one you use depends on what you want to do with it, codec quality etc.

The hands down easiest method if you just want to watch on your PC is to use Nero Recode -- takes your DVD backup on your HD & takes a lot less then an hour for mp4, but it's only good quality if you watch it using Nero Showtime.

For Xvid etc. I usually like to extract a title with shrink -- not always needed & same thing you did when you got one vob file basically. Then I use PgcDemux to get m2v & ac3 - same as you had from DVD Lab demux. The ac3 you'll convert to aac or mp3 or whatever because thats too big for your avi. I still like to use Graphedit to convert ac3 (especially 5.1) to uncompressed 2-channel wav.

Can then either compress vid & audio in V/Dub/Mod, encode audio separately & mux while encoding video, or separately encode wav file & mux after video encoded. There's plenty of ways to encode the audio separately, different software to mux, and different programs that let you access the xvid encoder & encoder setup.

Xvid is a bit unique I think in letting you pick up where you left off when doing more then one pass encoding -- more then one pass = where the video is analyzed 1st, then compressed. Xvid keeps track of the 1st pass in a stats file, which is why I think mats.hogberg asked about 2nd pass being run first. This I think would be set in the xvid setup screen, regardless the software used to access the encoder, so switching prog. I wouldn't think would help.
