login normally and change your user account to have admin rights.

which version of XP do you have, Home or Pro?
here's one way if you have Pro but I'm sure there are others like TweakXP that allow you to do it. You can also use Fast User switching in th eControl Panel/User Accounts to switch to the Admin account

I have XP Home, and I am trying to load Avi2DVD. This program loads fine, but when it tries to load AviSynth, I get an error message:
"You need administrator rights to install \r\n\r\n(Could not write to registry)"
Why would this happen?
So now I have Avi2DVD but with no audio... no good. HELP
Edit - Found the issue. Apparently avisynth was already installed and the error message occured.

Believing yourself to be secure only takes one cracker to dispel your belief.

At the Welcome Screen hit the <ctrl><alt><del> sequence.
That will bring up a Logon screen. Type "Administrator" for the user, then supply the password.TANSTAAFL
